Inotam, The Sundial Boss EXPLAINED! Destiny 2 Lore | Myelin Games

You are a Psion. Clever, canny specialist. Bolted into the Cabal hierarchy: a pilot,
an investigator, a manipulator, an operative. Be still. Your endless vigilance is done. Nothing will enslave you ever again. Welcome back guardians. Today I want to talk about Inotam, the Sundial
Psion boss added last week. This boss is created through the fusion of
three other psions and there is a bunch of new lore about them released on Bungie’s
website. So, I wanted to cover Inotam and the significance
of this Sundial boss, but whilst writing this script, I got well and truly sucked into the
history of the Psions, so I will cover a bunch of lore about Psions in general. As usual, the artwork at the beginning of
this video was made by Gammatrap, all patreon donations go towards paying Gammatrap for
his artwork. A link to patreon and all Gammatraps socials
will be in the description. This is myelin games and I hope you enjoy
this latest Destiny 2 lore episode. [INTRO]
Before starting… Destiny videos are in a bit of rough spot
at the moment, if you do enjoy my videos, leaving a comment and a like would really
help me out… help me through the slump. Any who, lets start. So I want to do a quick recap of psions in
general and their history, because this technically sets up the story of Inotam. The first thing to understand, is that even
though Psions formed an important component of the Cabal empire, technically, they are
an enslaved species. Have a listen to Oryx speaking to a Psion,
The Taken: Psion grimoire card reads, You are a Psion. Clever, canny specialist. Bolted into the Cabal hierarchy: a pilot,
an investigator, a manipulator, an operative. Be still. Your endless vigilance is done. Nothing will enslave you ever again. What hidden plan do you obey? What is your secret principle? Your mind is a weapon. The world breaks when you think. Secrets peel apart for you — like fruit. But you are a rare thing. There are so few of you. In general, I always found their enslavement
unusual, because Psions are really powerful and in my opinion, likely, one of the most
underrated threats in Destiny. So let me remind you of the power of a Psion,
the Psion Flayer grimoire card reads, “Many among the Warlock orders believe the
Flayers pulled Phobos from its natural orbit, holding it in place, waiting for the order
to release as a weapon.” Yeah, you know the spinning moon on mars,
apparently that was from the Psion Flayers. Psions were also very important to Calus. Some of them formed a Psion Council for Calus,
and maintained his Nightmare realm, which is the realm we see in the leviathan raid,
you know the SUCK room, with the giant Calus head. Have a listen to the Vest of Feltroc lore
tab, it reads, As a Psion, Feltroc possessed the uncanny
ability to slow her breathing and steady her motion with a layer of telekinetic manipulation. Before her passing, she had long sought a
seat on my Psion Council, to help maintain the nightmare realm I reserve for prisoners
and punishing wayward Loyalists. But she proved to be too valuable an asset
in the field. Remember that not only did the Psions form
a council to maintain Calus’s shadow realm, but Feltroc was in the field as Calus said,
and was a Shadow of Calus. The Shadows of Calus are like the champions
of champions of the Universe, the best of the best, Calus would destroy entire armies
and whoever was left standing, would become a champion. Furthermore, Calus also had a Shadow Councillor,
a very close advisor, who was a Psion called Match. This Psion councillor was actually one of
the few people to see the real Calus, and potentially the last being to see the real
Calus. Also, lets not forget Calus had the OXA machine
which appeared to have some ability to see into the future with the assistance of Psions
and there is a bit more lore about that which I will cover very soon. But the last thing I want to mention about
the Psions and Calus, is that apparently Calus had a Psion Huntsmaster, who possibly even
killed an Ahamkara. This Psion apparently used the Leviathan’s
breath, the exotic bow. Have a listen to the Leviathan’s breath
lore tab, it reads, You hear a lot of stories when you work as
a Gunsmith as long as I have, and this Bow has a wild one. This thing is the king of killers. Almost got Ghaul too. I think it was, um, Calus, who had it crafted
for his huntsmaster—what’s her name? Voyc? Yeah. Anyway, Calus had this obsession with collecting
the hides and heads of the rarest and most formidable creatures Voyc could find. And with this Bow, she was real good at it. Gwern, the Unbeatable—defeated. Giant sea monsters—taken down to size. I even heard she slayed an Ahamkara, which
is very impressive if it’s true. Calus was so thrilled with her that she got
a promotion. Of sorts. It wasn’t common knowledge. He called her “The Shadow of the Wilds,” which
never sat right with me. Psion Flayers aren’t known for their stealth. She was his assassin. When she wasn’t hunting prize game, she was
doing Calus’s dirty work in the most remote corners of the galaxy. Ok, so, I went a bit overboard, but the main
point I am trying to make is, Calus is very powerful, Calus appreciates powerful beings,
he is a collector of powerful beings, and he surrounds himself with Psions, not only
for their council but also for their military abilities. Psions are very powerful, Psion flayers are
even more powerful. Now, we can move onto the Lore that was released
on the bungie website that relates to Inotam and the Sundial. Of course, Psions are incredible powerful,
yet enslaved to the Cabal, so naturally, they want to free themselves. So this story starts with three Psion sisters
who were looking in the infinite forest for a future where the psions were free from the
Cabal. The website lore, Sisters, which we had received
a while ago, confirms that the Psions are trying to free themselves. Have a listen, it reads,
The three sisters arrived on Mercury. They searched for the Infinite Forest, and
through it, a path to their people’s salvation: a simulated future where they were free from
the Cabal. The psion sisters then find the sundial, and
this they believe will allow them to free themselves, they actually wanted to change
the fate of ghaul and the red war. Why? Well they wanted Ghaul to remain a leader,
and alive I guess, so they could manipulate him. Have a listen, it reads,
And something else. The source is disguised. The technology is Human, but refined. Surprisingly so.” “Disable it,” said Tazaroc, who was impatient. “It is leaking. I wish to see the leak.” Niruul fluttered her fingers across the sleeve
of her suit. She worked for one day and one night, though
the passage of time was hidden by Mercury’s perpetual blinding light. All the while, she could feel the restless
impatience of her sisters. A strange device shimmered into existence
around them. They looked up the length of an enormous,
golden spire. …
“We will open the past and change the course of Ghaul’s fate. Anticipate his mistakes. Undercut his advisors.” “Why?” said Tazaroc. “Because he could be swayed to our purposes,”
said Ozletc. “He was a fool, but he could be puppeteered. Led to a more advantageous downfall.” …
“Sisters,” Ozletc said. “We needn’t argue. This device will let us walk through future
and past both. And so we will cut the most advantageous path,
whatever it may be.” …
Around them, time split along its seams. Windows into other worlds, Mercury’s true
past and future, opened before them. The device stood at the center of all of it,
an anchor point. …
“It is so clear,” said Niruul, reverent. “An unobstructed glimpse into what was and
what will be.” “Not the troubled ramblings of a mad thing,
like the OXA,” said Tazaroc. So the Psion sisters, plan to free the psion
species by manipulating the future. Interestingly, they mention the OXA machine,
and it sounds like the OXA machine is not very accurate in predicting the future, but
the Sundial would definitely help them. It seems that to increase their power, the
three sisters fuse together, I assume this is to increase their control over the Sundial,
but I am not really too sure about this. Regardless, we see this happen in game, the
three sisters fuse together to become Inotam. Have listen to the website lore, Joined, it
reads, The three oldest sisters had begun the process
of joining, known only to them through ancient texts of the mind, never accomplished in recent
memory. It was a permanent metaconcert; an unbreakable
bond of self-dissolution. Already their minds had begun to merge, and
Amtec could see them being drawn closer, as if by some magnetic force in their bones. Now, you may have noticed a fourth psion was
mentioned in this lore entry, Amtec, and you may not know that this fourth psion also joined
the sisters, but only in mind, and this fourth psion is a bit like a backup plan, the fourth
psion is meant to succeed if the three sisters fail, have a listen to the entry. “The consequences of our failure,” said
Niruul. Amtec nodded. Her eye darted from sister to sister, now
both more foreign and more familiar, as each sister was each other sister, somehow, combined. “Together, we are stronger,” said Tazaroc. “Than any threat that may challenge us,”
said Ozletc. “But should we fail…” “Unlikely though it is,” said Tazaroc. “You must succeed where we could not,”
said Ozletc. “And so, you will join with us…” “In mind,” said Niruul. “But not in body,” said Tazaroc. Already, Amtec could feel the power of their
minds—their mind—settle against the edges of her own like a heavy, flat stone. It definitely seems like Amtec is meant to
revenge the sisters, especially since we kill the fused sisters in the Sundial activity! So I wonder if Amtec is out there? Regardless, we did what Guardians do best,
destruction, I sort of feel a little sorry for the psions, they were literally trying
to free their species! And with that, that concludes this latest
Destiny 2 lore episode. If you would like to support the channel and
cannot think of a word, you can leave the word, Freedom, to represent freeing the psion
species. As usual, it has been a pleasure, this is
myelin games. Peace.

  1. Eh I don't feel bad for them. Yes, they wanted to save their species, but in the process they also were going to enslave or destroy humanity, destroy the traveler, and ultimately lead the universe to a death on the molecular level.

  2. Hey bud, just wanted to say that I appreciate your content and hard work that you put into it. I suppose the seasonal model is probably tough for a lore content creator. Are there any lore areas you'd like to explore further, maybe a long form video / research topic? I don't know how enjoyable it would be given your struggles with your PhD that I've been hearing about on the DDU podcast.

  3. Wouldn't it be cool if the gaurdians start finding defectors from the other races like, not just the spider, would love to see cabal defectors seeking help from from the gaurdians, maybe some malfunctioning vex that somehow left the network and can think for itself, maybe even some weird hive that doesn't want to hurt others.

  4. Freedom! If there was a way for us to help them without our race being botched I'd love to but for now they are Hostile to us. . .

  5. I read the lore before fighting them and that was a hard choice to do. They had to kill us in order for them to survive. Felt bad while playing

  6. I've always wondered why Guardians didn't try to align with the Psions to some degree. They seem like they could be a powerful ally. And I do feel for them and their struggle. Maybe in the future Bungie can expand on this. Elaborate on Otzot and the OXA Machine in some kind of expansion. It seems like it could be a powerful device in the fight against Savathun and Quria.

  7. Keep going dont give up. Hold that tiny sliver of light that seeps threw the gaps in between your fingers. Let it warm you. An wash over you. Be that guiding light threw the lore.

  8. Your stuff is the best Matt – you’re the only lore guy I still watch. Hope the slump passes. If you’re out of ideas, spelunking through flavor text usually uncovers some interesting nuggets,..

  9. I feel like Amtec is probably brain dead if she only fused her mind with the other three sisters. Also, wouldn’t it be more advantageous to go back to before the Cabal enslaved their race and have the citizens the create an army to fight?

  10. Back to the hustle man, really enjoy your vids short and straight to the point.

PS You planning on covering the new cutscene confrontation between Osiris and Rasputin? Would really love to hear your thoughts on what's going on.
