Why Tibet? Tibetan people’s non-violent resistance to oppression

Why Tibet matters, I think it represents a
real storehouse of the world’s knowledge. When Buddhism was wiped out in India by the
Muslim nation then Tibet became a storehouse for all of
the Buddhist wisdom. So that is again in danger of being destroyed
and wiped out. For that reason we have to protect it. But also I think it’s important for the world
too because here we have people who are resisting oppression
non-violently — probably one of a few cases where a whole
nation is doing this — and so if we want to encourage this kind of
behavior which is the only real solution, we need to get behind Tibet and support it
in its non-violent resistance.
