WHY YOU NEED A SELF-CARE LIST ๐Ÿ’†: manage your stress + enhance your well-being


hello there welcome to my channel so
typically I create nutrition videos but today is a lifestyle video because as I
mentioned before for a healthy life you need both nutrition and a healthy
lifestyle I’m going to talk about something that has kind of changed my
life actually no it has changed my life it’s self-care lists in this video I’m
going to discuss what a self-care list is how I came across the
concept and how it’s helped me and how you can create a self care is so let’s
begin first things first what is a self-care list self care list in simple
terms is a list of activities that can help you cope with stress on a regular
basis so these are activities that I try to do whenever I’m feeling down i’m
exhausted i’m frustrated and I just need a timeout I just need some time for
myself so I came across the concept when I was in therapy earlier this year yes I
went to therapy therapy’s not a bad word I think whenever you need help there’s
no harm reaching out for it I told my therapist I was having trouble getting
out of the funk and being productive and she said that I needed to focus more on
self-care and make that a priority and honestly it makes such a big
difference I feel more productive I actually look forward to things even
when I’m stressed out because I know you know what I can manage this I can handle
the stress how do you create a self-care list so a self-care list is something
that you’re gonna have to do a little bit of brainstorming on you need to sit
down and really think what are those activities that make you happy
what are those activities that will help you bring yourself out of a funk now
those activities will be different for everybody
now I’m an introvert so my list includes a lot of things there in the home and
things I do by myself but if you’re more extroverted maybe your list would
good activities that you do with other people and that are more outside the
home or you know a combination of both everyone’s lists are different I’m going
to give an example of my list I write my list down in my bullet journal I’m
really big into bullet journaling now I think it’s made me very productive and I
refer to myself careless probably two to three times a week so that way I am
actually actively managing my stress as opposed to only managing my stress when
I’m really stressed out and this includes things like taking a long bath
because I really enjoy baths cuddling with my cats especially my older guy he
is got he’s got the right amount of fluff to be super cuddly or then it
could be something as simple as just spending a few minutes watching a couple
YouTube videos on bullet journaling because I love bullet journaling the act
of watching those videos de-stresses me basically anything can go on the list
all sorts items do what works best for you make it your own and really use this
as a tool to help you manage your stress and be more productive how often should
you use this list well you know what there’s no magic number but my therapist
recommended doing something from the list two to three times a week so that
way I’m actively managing my stress on the weekly basis as opposed to only
managing my stress when I’m really really stressed out I hope you learn
something new from this video the concept of self-care lists is really
really simple it doesn’t need to be complicated and it’s all about
customizing it so do whatever feels right to you you can write it down
wherever you want you don’t have to write it down in a journal you can put
it on a piece of paper and stick it on your fridge and that way whenever you’re
stressed out you can go to your fridge while you’re trying to get some snacks
and look at the list and be like you know what I’m not going to eat that cake
I’m gonna do something off my list because I’m not going to emotionally eat

  2. thanks for the helpful tips and I need this to cope with my depression:) I have lost many physical abilities after my injury so I get frustrated, initially , I cannot even talk and need a speech therapist to teach me how to talk! Now, I am relearning everything like a baby

  4. I don't do anything except to overcome my stress I sketch otherwise my only thing is to have an alone time for atleast 30mins. This keeps me calm. โ˜บ

  5. It took me over 20 years to realize that if I don't take care of myself nobody will. Most women take a very long time to learn this particular lesson.

  16. I love your points about cats! I love cats so much but currently can't have any in the apartment I am renting. I know cats would improve my mental health drastically. Buying/adopting in the next year is a serious goal of mine (no joke, I plan to have cats as other people plan to have kids, lol).
    I did this kind of list a while ago and I know what makes me happy, but the problem is actually following the list. Something stops me sometimes.

    Actually I'm using my bujo for managing my personal life
    I've been working with it since November and it helped me to complete my first month meditating on a daily basis

  21. My self care list has helped tremendously. Anytime I'm feeling low I start at a point on the list that makes the most sense and I just complete them one by one with a smile on my face and as positive an attitude as I can muster until I'm feeling better. Rarely do I have to go through five of them before I'm on an even keel.

  23. Ria, your videos are so inspiring and motivational. I've been struggling with weight a lot, and over the years I've developed a very unhealthy food and sugar addiction where every time I get stressed or want to cheer myself up, I turn to munching.
    These are great pointers to substitute eating with something more profound!

    Stretching or meditating
    Doodling and writing
    A fresh cut bowl of fruit
    Walking if its nice out
